Tent camp in the Okavango Delta

Okavango Delta

Unleash the inner adventurer in you and experience the Okavango Delta in the only real way: under canvas with elephants, impalas and lions roaring at night, the tweeting of birds that wakes you in the morning and a chilled glass of white wine around the camp fire in the evening with views of the most wonderful starry sky. Can there really be a fridge here in the middle of the bush? You might ask. Yes, there can – and one that runs on solar cells to boot!

The tent you stay in is roughly 15 m² and made of strong canvas with large windows. It is standing height and has LED lamps, a wardrobe rail and, of course, a mosquito net over all windows and doors.

You sleep in a comfortable bed with a nice soft mattress, real duvets and pillows and a small bedside table. The bed can be arranged both as a double bed or as “twin beds”.

Adjoining your tent, you have your own bush bathroom with a shower and toilet. There is no electricity or running water in the tent, and the “flush” of the toilet consists of a pile of soil and a small shovel – bush fashion!

You are supplied with hot water when you need it, and can wash yourself in a small, moveable wash basin on a stand. If you’ve seen the film “Out of Africa”, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about. When you need to take a shower in your bathroom, the water is heated, which is lifted up into a bucket with a shower head underneath. It’s primitive, but comfortable, and most importantly, it’s accommodation on nature’s terms, leaving behind no traces while allowing you to get right up close to the wildlife in the delta.

Meals are enjoyed in the mess tent – and the food is good! Freshly prepared, delicious and filling – being on safari gives you quite the appetite. You simply must try the delicious chilli sauce that is served with the food. It’s the result of a sustainability project that the owners of the camp are involved in. For each overnight guest, the owners give a sum of money to a charity fund where local farmers are trained to grow chillies and make chilli sauce, which is then purchased and served to the safari guests.

It goes without saying that cold beer and wine are served with your food if you wish, and tea and coffee are available all day long.
