Why travel to Kenya?

Kenya is one of our most popular destinations.

With its diverse wildlife and majestic landscapes, this East African gem is considered one of the world’s ultimate safari destinations. Your tour will take you to one or more of Kenya’s famous national parks and natural areas, for example the Masai Mara, Tsavo, or Amboseli National Park.

As well as extraordinary wildlife, the country boasts a rich cultural heritage, vibrant cities such as Nairobi and Mombasa, and beautiful stretches of coastline that invite a relaxing beach holiday.

You’re guaranteed an unforgettable adventure on a tour to Kenya.

Our tours in Kenya

We offer a variety of tours in Kenya, each designed with its own distinct focus.

Whichever tour you choose, spectacular safari adventures in some of the country’s iconic national parks will always be an integral part of the experience. What else you experience depends on the tour you choose.

Below you can read more about some of the highlights that typically are featured on our tours.

Safari in Kenya

With its impressive wildlife and magnificent landscapes, Kenya is a superb destination for an unforgettable safari experience.

Your safari in Kenya will take you to one or more of Kenya’s most celebrated national parks. For example, you can witness the Great Wildebeest Migration in the Maasai Mara, watch elephants with views of Kilimanjaro in Amboseli National Park, admire the striking landscapes and the Samburu Special Five in Samburu, or explore Tsavo East National Park, renowned for its distinctive red soil.

No matter which of Kenya’s national parks you choose to visit, one thing is certain: you’ll encounter abundant wildlife, from elephants and hippos to giraffes and lions – and that’s just a small taste of the fascinating species that await you in Kenya.

Beach holiday in Kenya

Kenya may not be the first place you think of for a beach holiday, but it will surprise you with stunning beaches that are perfect for just that!

On the country’s east coast, along Kenya’s shoreline on the Indian Ocean, relaxing days by the warm sea await, with beaches that stretch as far as the eye can see.

You can choose to spend your beach holiday in Kenya at Diani Beach, which beckons with white sands, crystal-clear water, and excellent water sports such as snorkelling, windsurfing, and kayaking; or at Malindi Beach, where, besides unwinding on the beautiful shore, you’re close to UNESCO-listed sights and authentic Swahili culture.

Kenya’s cities

A tour to Kenya brings you to some of the country’s largest cities, where soaring high-rises and bustling streets stand in sharp contrast to the peaceful life of the savannah.

Kenya’s vibrant capital, Nairobi, is rich in both culture and nature, and you can’t help but be captivated when you visit this remarkable city. For example, enjoy views of the Ngong Hills when you visit the famous Karen Blixen Museum, or head out on an authentic safari in Nairobi National Park, with Nairobi’s striking skyline as your backdrop.

In Mombasa, Kenya’s second-largest city, you can delve into its past as a trading hub as you explore historic sites such as the majestic Fort Jesus, or be swept up by its vibrant atmosphere as you wander the narrow, colourful streets.

Combine your tour to Kenya with…

We offer a variety of combinations, so your tour to Kenya can be as varied as you like.

If you’re dreaming of more nature and wildlife experiences, you could, for example, combine it with gorilla trekking in Uganda or a safari in Madagascar. If you’d prefer more time on the beach, you can extend your tour with a beach holiday in Mauritius or Zanzibar. See your options under each tour.

Mauritius

Combine your Kenyan adventure with a tour to Mauritius, an exclusive tropical paradise in the heart of the Indian Ocean.

With its turquoise waters and breathtaking beaches, including gems such as Tamarin, Flic en Flac, and Palmar, Mauritius invites both lazy hours in the sun and active time in the water – for example, diving and snorkelling among the beautiful coral reefs that surround the island.

Those heavenly beaches are far from the only thing waiting for you on Mauritius. The island also offers a wealth of lush, diverse natural experiences that will enchant any traveller. For example, you can hike up the iconic mountain, Le Morne, or lose yourself in the beauty of nature at the sacred Ganga Talao lake.

Madagascar

If you’re keen to experience wildlife that’s markedly different from that on the African mainland, combine Kenya with a tour to Madagascar.

Madagascar is a scenic gem off Africa’s east coast, home to wildlife so unique that 90% of its species are found nowhere else on Earth. One of the animals the island is especially known for is the lemur, which is endemic to Madagascar. There are more than 100 different species, ranging from the elegant sifaka, famed for its incredible leaping ability, to the iconic ring-tailed lemur, recognised by its distinctive black-and-white tail.

Beyond its rich wildlife, Madagascar also offers magnificent landscapes, including lush rainforests, beautiful orchids, and iconic baobab trees, along with fascinating historical experiences such as the Queen’s Palace in the vibrant capital, Antananarivo.

Tanzania

Extend your East African adventure and combine Kenya with a tour to Tanzania, which, like Kenya, offers world-class wildlife, nature, and cultural experiences.

In Tanzania, you can experience the rich wildlife of Serengeti National Park, one of the country’s most famous national parks, and delve into the fascinating culture and traditions of the Maasai when you visit an authentic Maasai village.

If pure relaxation is what you’re dreaming of, you can combine your tour to Kenya with a beach holiday on Zanzibar: an idyllic paradise island lying 50 km off Tanzania’s coast, enticing you with soft sandy beaches, swaying coconut palms, and turquoise waters as far as the eye can see.

Uganda

If you can’t get enough of Africa’s amazing wildlife and stunning scenery, you can combine Kenya with a tour to Uganda.

In Uganda, you’ll find some of the continent’s most varied and lush landscapes, offering everything from dense rainforests and sweeping savannahs to dormant volcanoes and majestic mountains. Beyond its breathtaking scenery, Uganda also impresses with its unique wildlife, which you can encounter up close in some of the country’s beautiful national parks.

Among the highlights is a visit to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, where you can encounter one of the world’s largest populations of free-roaming mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, along with more than 120 species of mammals and 350 species of birds.

Frequently asked questions about Kenya

We know that lots of questions can spring to mind when you’re travelling to Kenya for the first time.

So below we’ve put together some of the questions we’re asked most often about Kenya, so that you’re well prepared for your big adventure.

How much does a tour in Kenya with TourCompass cost?

The price of a tour in Kenya varies depending on the length of your tour, what it includes, and your departure date.

Our tours are sold as package holidays that include flights, transfers, and scheduled excursions. You can see our starting prices for each tour. It’s typically more expensive to travel in peak season, for example during the summer holidays and over Christmas and New Year, and cheaper to travel outside peak season.

To get the final price for your tour, based on your departure date, selected airport, and any amendments or upgrades, we recommend that you request a quote.

What’s the weather like in Kenya?

Thanks to Kenya’s location on the Equator, the country has a tropical climate. You can enjoy warm weather year round, with daytime temperatures averaging between 22 and 27 degrees Celsius.

Kenya has both dry and rainy seasons.

The dry seasons (January to February/March and June to October) typically bring warm weather with very little rain, while the rainy seasons (April to late May and late October to December) bring wetter conditions and lush, green landscapes.

You can read more about the weather in Kenya here.

When is the best time to visit Kenya?

Kenya is a year-round destination, offering wonderful experiences at any time of year. The best time to visit therefore largely depends on you and what you’re looking for.

Most people prefer to travel during the dry seasons, when the weather is historically at its ‘best’, i.e. January to February/March and June to October.

There are also plenty of advantages to travelling in the rainy seasons (April to late May and late October to December). During these months, you’ll typically find fewer visitors, lusher landscapes, and you can often save money too.

Whenever you choose to visit Kenya, unforgettable experiences are guaranteed.

Is it safe to travel to Kenya?

Yes, it is safe to travel to Kenya. We know this because we visit Kenya regularly ourselves and have in-depth knowledge about the country and its local conditions.

We always do our utmost to make sure you feel safe and cared for from start to finish. That’s why you can contact our local partners and experienced travel specialists around the clock if you need assistance or have any questions during your tour.

As with any destination, it’s always a good idea to exercise common sense and follow the official advice.

Do I need vaccinations before travelling to Kenya?

You’ll probably need vaccinations before travelling to Kenya.

For advice on which vaccinations you need (and which you may already have), we recommend contacting a specialist doctor, your GP, or an authorised vaccination clinic.

Do note the yellow fever regulations, especially if you are travelling to Kenya via another country where yellow fever occurs. Some countries require proof of yellow fever vaccination upon arrival.

H3: Should you tip in Kenya?

Yes, tips are gratefully received by guides, waiters, and other service staff in Kenya.

How much you give is up to you.

We recommend the following:

  • USD 10–15 per person per day for your guide/driver. Hand it over at the end of the tour, preferably in a sealed envelope.
  • USD 2 for the porter who carries your luggage
  • 10–15% in bars and restaurants
  • USD 2 per day for housekeeping
