The limestone cave Gruta do Lago Azul

Experience the scenic grotto, Gruta do Lago Azul, known for its clear turquoise-blue waters and its dripstone formations.

You will be picked up from the hotel and driven the 45-minute drive to the cave. On your arrival, you will be kitted out with a safety helmet before heading into the depths of the cave.

On the tour, you walk with a small group and a guide 300 metres down steep steps, which are hewn out of the limestone rock of the cave. There will be breaks along the way when you can admire the stunning cave, while the guide tells you about the various geological formations found there: stalactites, stalagmites and many other limestone deposits. At the foot of the steps, there is a plateau where you can really take in the picturesque surroundings and take a lot of amazing photos. The lake in the cave is more than 80 metres deep at its deepest point, and it is home to rare albino shrimp, as well as the bones of sabre-toothed tigers and giant sloths which lived in the region more than 12,000 years ago.

After enjoying the surroundings at the bottom of the cave, you head back up the stairs and you will be driven back to your hotel after an eventful tour.

We recommend that you wear good shoes as the stairs can be slippery.

Children must be aged 6+ to participate. The tour is not recommended for people with health issues or people with a fear of heights or confined spaces.
