In the lush mountains of Hoa Binh province, approximately 110 km south-west of Hanoi, lies Quyet Thang, a community of 23 small villages where the Muong people have lived for generations.

Many families in the area struggle with poverty, exhausted plots of land, and long distances to both schools and health clinics. Most still work with basic tools, and the roads between the villages are so poor that transporting everyday goods is both cumbersome and costly. As young people head for the cities in search of better opportunities, the community is left with fewer hands and a cultural heritage at risk of disappearing.

That’s why our local partner has launched a project which, together with the residents, aims to improve living conditions through local solutions that both strengthen the economy and preserve the rich culture that characterises the Muong people.

The project is being developed in ongoing dialogue with the villages, which have themselves identified the needs and initiatives that can bring about real change. Among the measures already implemented are a new village road and a community house with a library where children can borrow books and get help with their schoolwork. Solar-powered lamps have already been installed along paths and in communal areas, and the goal is to put up many more. They provide light after nightfall, allowing residents to move around more safely. At the same time, men’s traditional crafts such as bamboo weaving are being strengthened so they can once again generate income and everyday pride.

The project also works on green solutions, including promoting organic farming practices and supporting forms of locally run tourism that keep income in the village and benefit the people who live here.

When you visit Quyet Thang, you are contributing directly to this local development. A percentage of the tour price goes straight to the project, helping to create lasting improvements and preserve the proud traditions of northern Vietnam.
