Tonlé Sap Lake and life in a Khmer village in the country

After breakfast, you will be picked up from the hotel and driven to the shore of Tonlé Sap Lake. From here, you sail to Kompong Phluk, an isolated Khmer community consisting of three villages. The villagers live in houses built on 6–8-metre high wooden piles, and their main source of income is fish and vegetables.

The boat sails you through mangrove forests, a completely unique ecosystem housing several different species of animals. Keep an eye out for the birds and the crab-eating macaques.

The boat continues to the small village of Chansar, where it is replaced by an ox-drawn cart. You enjoy a fun, bumpy ride through the fields to the home to a local Khmer family who make their living from making brooms. You get to see how they make the brooms, and you might also want to help make one.

You are then given a guided tour of the village, giving you an opportunity to see and take part in village life. The activities change according to the time of year you visit the village. For example, it might be time to sow or harvest the fields, feed the animals or go fishing. This is a tour on which you are welcome to actively participate in the daily activities of the village. It’s a great way to get close to the locals and enjoy an unforgettable experience.

A traditional Khmer lunch at the village is included.

On the journey back to Siem Reap, you stop at a Buddhist temple where you will be blessed by the monks.

The profit from these tours goes directly to raising the standard of living of the villagers.

You are back at the hotel late afternoon.

This excursion is open to TourCompass’ own guests only.

We recommend that you book the excursion when booking the tour.
