When is the best time to take a self-drive tour in New Zealand?
The best time for a self-drive tour in New Zealand is from November to April. During these months, the days are long, the weather is mild, and the risk of snow and ice on the roads is minimal.
In the winter months (June to August), roads, especially in the alpine regions, can become slippery due to frost, snow, and ice. For this reason, we don’t offer self-drive tours to New Zealand during this period.
How much does a self-drive holiday in New Zealand cost?
The price of your self-drive holiday in New Zealand depends on several factors, such as your chosen route, how long you’re away for, and the time of year that you visit.

Is it safe to drive in New Zealand?
Yes, it’s safe to drive in New Zealand.
However, the sometimes harsh winter weather from June to August can cause icy roads, which is why we don’t offer self-drive tours in New Zealand during these months.
Which side of the road do you drive on in New Zealand?
In New Zealand, you’ll drive on the left-hand side, just as we do at home, so you’ll quickly feel at ease on New Zealand’s roads.
Can you drive in New Zealand with a British driving licence?
Yes, you can. However, if your licence is in a language other than English, you must also carry an International Driving Permit (IDP), which translates your licence into English.
