Costa Rica - After Dark (Evening)

Costa Rica’s wildlife is spectacular – and not just in the daytime! After dark, the nocturnal animals come out.

You’ll be picked up from your hotel at around 5 pm and driven to a small town called La Tigra, a drive of around 45 minutes. Here, you’ll visit a local family that owns a large piece of land with lots of wildlife. Together with your guide, you’ll walk around the lush vegetation along small paths looking for animals.

Being surrounded by the sounds of the animals and insects of the living forest is a unique experience. You may be lucky enough to spot a whole array of nocturnal animals such as possums, geckos, bats, frogs and birds.

The owners of this piece of land have dedicated an area to promoting survival and reproduction of the frogs, where there are small water holes with stones, which the frogs love. With a little luck, you’ll see a multitude of frog species such as the glass frog, the red-eyed tree frog, the American bullfrog and the poison dart frog, which is Costa Rica’s smallest frog.

After your little “evening safari”, the tour rounds off with a traditional al fresco Costa Rican dinner. The food is enjoyed with a beautiful view of the lights from the towns in the San Carlos area.

After dinner, you’ll be driven back to your hotel.

Remember to bring: We recommend that you wear comfortable clothes, a waterproof jacket and walking boots or trainers as well as mosquito repellent.
