Kaura Bali sits high in the hills above Manggis. It’s a place where village life, nature, and tranquillity come together. Here, you’ll stay surrounded by green rice terraces and jungle, with views of the Indian Ocean, and the atmosphere is unhurried, attentive, and closely connected to the local community. Kaura was created by our local partner in close collaboration with the village, and much of the experience springs from meeting the people who live here. Everything feels warm, down-to-earth, and respectful of nature and local traditions.
The resort comprises 22 freestanding pavilions set on small terraces with views of either the valley or the sea. The interiors are light and simple, using natural materials such as wood and woven textiles. Draw back the canvas and the space opens to nature; step straight out onto your own terrace and feel immersed in the landscape. As standard, you’ll stay in a pavilion for two, with 25 m² of indoor space and a 10 m² terrace. All pavilions come with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a safety box, and a bathroom with a toilet, shower, hot water, and locally made bath products.
Kaura also has a gorgeous infinity pool overlooking the valley, where the light shifts beautifully throughout the day. There’s yoga in the little shala on the hilltop, a spa area offering Balinese treatments, and cosy nooks with hammocks and fire pits.
The restaurant, Pratiwi, follows farm-to-table principles, sourcing ingredients directly from its own fields and neighbouring farms. The menu is seasonal, showcasing Balinese flavours, homemade spice pastes, and fresh herbs.
Evenings often settle into an informal mood around the open fire pit with a refreshing cocktail in hand, while the cicadas and the glow of the flames set the tone for the rest of the evening.
