Half-day tour of authentic and old Tokyo

Set out on a charming morning tour to discover traditional Tokyo and feel the city’s historical spirit through peaceful temples and delightful neighbourhoods filled with local shops and crafts.

You’ll meet your guide at your hotel and head towards Ueno Park, one of Tokyo’s oldest and most beloved green spaces. Here, your guide will share the story of the area’s past as the site of the historic Kanei-ji Temple, which served as the spiritual centre of the Tokugawa family during the Edo period. You’ll also experience the park’s serene atmosphere among tree-lined paths, small ponds, and ancient temples, and understand why it remains one of Tokyo’s most important spiritual sanctuaries.

Your guide will then take you on to the Yanaka district, one of the few areas in Tokyo where you can still sense the atmosphere of pre-war Japan. Here you’ll discover a Tokyo that retains the calm and charm of earlier times, gaining an authentic insight into local life at a gentler pace. Along the way, your guide will share a wealth of knowledge about the area’s history and everyday culture, giving you a unique glimpse into places where traditions are still very much alive.

In Yanaka’s narrow streets, lined with traditional wooden houses and small workshops, you’ll also hear stories about the city’s craft traditions and everyday life, far removed from the bustle of the metropolis. Among other things, you’ll visit the historic Isetatsu shop, which has been selling classic Japanese paper goods and woodblock prints for more than a hundred years.

The tour ends at Nippori Station, where your guide will be happy to offer recommendations for lunch or suggest places for you to continue exploring on your own.
