Swim in cenotes and visit a Maya village
Would you like to experience more of Mexico’s culture and natural wonders? Join us on this half-day excursion, where you’ll enjoy refreshing swims in underground waterholes and visit a traditional Maya village.
The day begins with a visit to the local market, where you can shop for fresh fruit or perhaps a warm tamal (a traditional Mexican dish wrapped in corn leaves) to take with you on the tour.
Next, we’ll explore the historic San Bernardino de Siena Monastery, which dates back to the 16th century and stands as a testament to the grandeur of the colonial era. After that, you’ll enjoy a revitalising swim at the beautiful San Lorenzo Oxman cenote, an underground pool open to the sky and surrounded by lush greenery.
The adventure continues to Dzitnup, giving you another chance to swim in the crystal-clear waters of the mesmerising cenotes: X’Kekén and Samulá. These underground pools are famous for their dramatic limestone formations and the shafts of light that stream through openings in the rock, creating a truly magical atmosphere.
The excursion concludes with a visit to the local Maya community in the village of Dzitnup. Here, you’ll enjoy a fascinating insight into how the Maya people lived a hundred years ago, and how, even today, they keep their culture and identity alive through their traditions, craftsmanship, and language.
