The wonders of Oaxaca – nature and culture

On this full-day tour, you can explore some of the area's most popular attractions. This tour offers a unique opportunity to experience Oaxaca's culture, natural beauty, and traditional crafts.

You will be picked up from your hotel after breakfast and then you'll visit the legendary Tule Tree, famed for its enormous size – it's amongst the oldest trees in the world!

The tour continues to Mitla, one of the most important archaeological sites in the state of Oaxaca, second only to Monte Albán. Mitla is renowned for its unique architecture and geometric decorations. It was an important ceremonial centre for both the Zapotecs and later the Mixtecs. The name "Mitla" comes from the Nahuatl-speaking Aztecs' word "Mictlán," meaning "place of the dead," reflecting its religious and ceremonial significance.

After visiting the ruins at Mitla, there is a short lunch break where you can purchase food or snacks from the local food stalls outside the archaeological site.

The tour then proceeds to one of Oaxaca's most striking natural phenomena, Hierve el Agua, which are petrified waterfalls that have formed over thousands of years. The name "Hierve el Agua" means "the water boils" in Spanish, stemming from the thermal springs that emerge at the site. Although the water appears to bubble like it’s boiling, it is actually perfect for a refreshing swim. Take a dip in the natural pools while enjoying a breathtaking view of the landscape.

The tour continues to Teotitlan, known for its beautiful, hand-woven wool rugs. Here, you can witness the traditional weaving technique passed down through generations.

Today's excursion concludes with a brief stop at a Mezcal distillery, where you can learn about the production of this traditional Mexican spirit, made from the agave plant, for drinks like tequila. Mezcal is primarily produced in Oaxaca, and tasting it is a must when in this region.

You will return to your hotel in the evening.
