Today brings an exciting experience in the unique ecosystem of the Panama Canal. You’ll be picked up early in the morning from your hotel and driven to Gamboa, where the excursion will begin.
From the harbour in Gamboa, you’ll board a small motorboat and soon glide out onto the vast Gatún Lake, a central part of the Panama Canal. Before reaching a more peaceful area, you’ll sail through a section of the canal where enormous cargo ships pass by. Here, you’ll witness a fascinating contrast between the busy shipping routes of one of the world’s most important trade corridors and the lush surrounding rainforest with its rich flora and fauna.
As the journey continues, you’ll pass forest-clad shores and tiny islands, with the boat venturing as close to nature as possible. Enjoy views of the vibrant rainforest while keeping an eye out for the area’s abundant wildlife.
It’s not unusual to spot monkeys, sloths, crocodiles, and iguanas along the way. The sky and treetops are also often alive with a wide variety of bird species, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled if you want a good chance of seeing them. We recommend bringing binoculars to enhance your chances of spotting the animals.
After approximately 1–1½ hours of sailing, you’ll return to the harbour in Gamboa before being driven back to your hotel in Panama City.
Duration: approximately 3 hours incl. transfers
The tour includes: transfer to and from your hotel and a boat trip with an English-speaking guide
Remember to bring: binoculars, a rain poncho, and insect repellent
