Get ready for a truly unique experience – you’ll have the chance to experience the Panama Canal up close. You’ll be collected from your hotel and driven to the harbour, where your ship will set sail on a partial transit through one of the world’s most remarkable feats of engineering.
During the journey, a guide will be on board to share fascinating insights into the canal’s history and explain how the lock system works. After departure, the ship passes under the iconic Bridge of the Americas, before reaching the famous Miraflores Locks, where the vessel is raised to the next level of the canal. Shortly afterwards, you’ll continue through the Pedro Miguel Lock, which leads you towards the most dramatic stretch of the canal.
Here, the ship enters the Culebra Cut, also known as Gaillard Cut, where the canal carves its way through the mountains of Panama’s central highlands. This section was the most challenging part of the canal’s construction, where thousands of workers battled both nature and tough working conditions during the building process.
During the cruise, you’ll pass by historic areas such as Contractor’s Hill and Gold Hill, and if you’re lucky, you might spot some wildlife along the banks – it’s not uncommon to see large crocodiles basking on the sandbanks.
After Culebra Cut, the landscape opens up as you sail out onto Gatún Lake, which, when completed in the early 1900s, was the largest man-made lake in the world.
The cruise ends in Gamboa, where you’ll disembark. From here, you’ll be driven back to Panama City, arriving after a day rich in experiences along one of the world’s most famous waterways.
As the transit schedule is not confirmed until shortly before, our partner will only be able to inform you of the exact departure time for the excursion 24 hours in advance.
Note: This tour is upon request and only available on Saturdays and Sundays. We recommend that you book the excursion when booking the tour and at least two months in advance.
