THE TOUR IN SHORT

This tour is for anyone who wants to be pampered!

Starting from the end, you conclude your tour with a five-star luxury safari at the Kapama Private Game Reserve, where you can look forward to great adventures and the opportunity to experience the Big 5, among other things.

At Private Game Reserves, the rules are different and less strict than in national parks, and there are far fewer visitors here. This gives you a more personal, intimate safari experience. Everything is included in your stay, including food and drink.

But before this highlight, you treat yourself to Cape Town, a major city with one of the most beautiful locations in the world. We’ve made sure to give you plenty of time to look around the city on your own, but we’ve also included a full-day excursion to Cape Point, an absolute must-see for a visit to Cape Town.

In the Winelands, you can sample exquisite drops and spend the night at a gorgeous five-star hotel before concluding your tour with a luxurious all-inclusive safari.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Departure from the UK

Today you depart by plane from the UK to Cape Town with connecting flight(s) along the way.

Day 2: Arrival in Cape Town

On your arrival in Cape Town, you will be met at the airport by our partner and driven to your hotel. There are no plans for the first day. Maybe you’ll want a nap after the flight, but if you want, you can already start exploring the city.

Day 3: Experiences in Cape Town

Wake up in one of the world’s loveliest cities. That’s Cape Town

Beautifully flanked by mountains offering an array of scenic nature experiences within easy reach, one white sandy beach after another, great shopping options, sights and activities for everyone – and not least a wide selection of restaurant and dining experiences. Classics such as bobotie, biltong, springbuck carpaccio and bunny chow are to be found all over the place, but there is also a great deal of experimentation, mixing old and new, and fusion kitchens thrive in the city. Use this day to get a taste of the city.

If you would like to experience some of the most popular places such as Robben Island, a visit to a township or a trip to the top of Table Mountain, we recommend booking from home, as they sell out quickly.

Day 4: Full-day excursion to Cape Point

Today’s full-day excursion is dedicated to stunning views, beautiful beaches and wilderness.

Chapman’s Peak Drive at Cape Town is reputed to be one of the most beautiful coastal stretches in the world for good reason. The 9 km stretch of road between Hout Bay and Noordhoek offers 114 bends and unique views of the sea and the mountains. This road was carved out by prisoners during World War 1 and offers a gorgeous view, making it both terrible and fascinating at the same time.

However, before you get here on today’s excursion from Cape Town to Cape Point, you pass the beaches at Clifton and Camps Bay. A stop is made in Hout Bay, where you have the option to purchase a boat trip to Seal Island.

At the Cape of Good Hope, you have time for a walk all the way to Cape Point itself, which affords a fabulous view of the roaring waves crashing into the coast.

On today’s excursion, you’ll also visit Simon’s Town, a pleasant little town where you can purchase a visit to the penguin colony on Boulders Beach. From Muizenberg, you enjoy the most amazing view of Table Mountain, before heading through Constantia and back to Cape Town.

This is one of the most classic full-day excursions from Cape Town and an absolute must when you’re in the city.

Day 5: Cape Town on your own

Today, you can do whatever you want. We recommend that you set aside time to drive around Cape Town’s renowned Waterfront. Here, you can find shops, delicious food, and lots of entertainment. Have a seat at a café and tuck into a cup of coffee or a cool glass of wine, enjoying a view of Table Mountain. Remember to keep an eye on the jetties, where seals often lie around.

Day 6: Cape Town – Winelands

You’ll be picked up from your hotel early in the morning as your tour continues to the lush Winelands. It’s only an hour’s drive away, but it feels like you’re entering another world.

Yesterday, you saw the blue-grey sea that you see from practically anywhere in Cape Town. Now, you’re looking out at green vineyards, characteristic Cape Dutch houses and a backdrop consisting of the mountains that help make the valleys of the Winelands such an excellent place for winegrowing.

Today, you get to sample the wines of multiple vineyards across several spots in the Winelands. In Stellenbosch, there is time for a guided walk through the historic part of the town, and there is a tour of a vineyard. In Franschhoek, a ride awaits you on the famous “Wine Tram”, a train that runs between the vineyards in the area – a fun and very charming experience. You ride through the scenic Helshoogte mountain pass before checking in at your hotel in the Winelands.

Day 7: Relaxation in the Winelands

Enjoy a lovely day with options for relaxation, massage, good food, or perhaps further wine tasting. Feel free to ask what your options are at the hotel. They’re very well-versed on the surrounding area. There are wine experiences in walking distance from your hotel.

Day 8: Winelands – Cape Town – Kapama Private Game Reserve

From the Winelands, you begin a return trip to Cape Town and the airport, where a flight takes you to quite a different landscape, the northern Limpopo province. Over the next few days, this is where you can look forward to the luxury safari leg of your tour.

If the name Limpopo rings a bell, then you may be remembering your childhood, reading Rudyard Kipling’s story about how the elephant got its trunk. This story took place at the green-grey, murky Limpopo River, and the province was named after this river. That said, the river itself runs further north than where you’re going, you’re getting off the plane at Hoedspruit.

Here, you’ll be picked up at the airport, and a short drive later, you’ll arrive at the Kapama Private Game Reserve. At the reserve, you drive about half an hour south, down to the luxurious, five-star Kapama Southern Camp that will be your home for the next 4 nights.

Days 9-11: Safari in the Kapama Private Game Reserve

When you’re on safari, your days often seem both similar to each other, but also, not in the slightest!

Usually, the day starts long before sunrise. A quick cup of coffee and you’re off, while it’s still dark out.

It’s quite a magical experience, sitting in the safari car in the dark wrapped in some warm clothes, as the sounds of the night slowly die down. What may have happened out there in the night? Did the lions succeed in their hunt? Perhaps the hyenas are hopefully lurking around, or are the disappointedly waiting for scraps? Where did the elephants spend the night?

The first sign of dawn is, like at home, the birdsong. Birds wake up and sing away the night away.

Monkeys almost always sleep in the treetops. Here, they are left more or less safe. If there are infants, then they’ll be terribly playful in the morning, packed with energy.

As the darkness eases off, you’ll start to see the contours of trees, or are they giraffes? The sunbeams give life, and later, heat. Perhaps there’s time for a cup of coffee, unless a leopard crosses your path.

With the morning well underway, and with the weather heating up, the animals relax. You can, too. You’re brought back to the lodge, where a delicious breakfast awaits you. Spend the midday hours at the pool, taking a nap, reading a good book, or consider visiting one of the charity projects run by Kapama.

In the evening, the whole process repeats, albeit in reverse.

A cup of coffee, getting in the car, the sun is baking, the animals are lazy. As the sun sets, the cicadas begin to sing. A cacophony of noises sends off the sun and you put on a long-sleeved sweater, perhaps with a G&T in your hand, somewhere in the bush.

The monkeys calm down, and nocturnal animals enter the fray. With infra-red lights, you search for African wildcats, servals, caracals, aardwolves, honey badgers, we could go on. They ARE there, but they may be hard to see… And that’s part of why a safari never gets dull!

Back at the lodge, dinner awaits, and you can have a good talk around the fireplace before bed. You wake up before sunset the next morning, and the whole process begins again.
