Safari in Yala National Park

Add an extra game drive in Yala National Park and increase your chances of witnessing the very best of Sri Lanka’s exotic wildlife.

Travelling in an open jeep, you’ll embark on safari with your guide and an experienced ranger who truly knows the park inside and out. Your ranger is highly skilled at tracking down the animals and spotting subtle signs of their presence.

Your safari will take place either early in the morning or later in the afternoon, as the midday heat sends the animals seeking shade amidst Yala’s diverse landscape, which includes forests, scrub, wetlands, and open plains. The national park is home to an astonishing array of wildlife, from elephants, buffalo, deer, and monkeys to crocodiles, wild boar, and more than 200 species of birds.

However, Yala is especially renowned for boasting one of the world’s highest leopard concentrations. Although sightings are never guaranteed, the possibility of glimpsing such an elusive big cat draws wildlife enthusiasts from across the globe. The mere chance to spot one of nature’s most magnificent predators adds an extra thrill to your safari and keeps you alert to everything moving around you. Naturally, your ranger will be on hand to help spot the animals and explain fascinating details about their behaviour and whereabouts.

After a few hours exploring Sri Lanka’s captivating wildlife, you’ll return to your hotel.
