In Luang Prabang, we have chosen to collaborate with the hotel group Sanctuary Hotels & Resorts.
This hotel group has achieved Travelife Gold certification, an internationally recognised accreditation for sustainable tourism. The certification is based on more than 140 criteria, covering everything from environmental management and ethical working conditions to supporting the local community and making continual improvements based on guest feedback.
In daily life, these efforts are reflected in various ways. When a room is vacant, all electrical equipment is switched off and disconnected; after cleaning, housekeeping staff set the temperature to 25 °C; and energy, water, and waste consumption are carefully recorded and monitored. Over 90% of the hotel’s lighting has been replaced with LED bulbs, and water-saving fittings have been installed in taps, showers, and toilets. As a guest, you can also do your part by reusing towels in your room or by the pool.
A key focus is also on the reduction of plastic use. Plastic bottles have been replaced by refillable glass bottles and water stations, plastic bags are not used, and straws have been swapped for bamboo. The restaurants use paper bags and biodegradable containers for take-away, which has significantly reduced single-use plastics.
Sanctuary Hotels & Resorts also places great emphasis on providing a safe working environment. Staff receive fair wages, thorough training, and all the necessary safety equipment, especially for handling and storing cleaning products.
To minimise food waste, leftovers are sorted separately so that more can be recycled and less ends up in the landfill – a practical step towards cutting greenhouse gas emissions and operating more sustainably.
By choosing to stay at Sanctuary Hotel in Luang Prabang, you’re actively supporting a more sustainable future.
