Nestled within the lush scenery of the Mekong Delta, where winding rivers and canals weave through rice paddies and orchards, lies Vinh Long. Here, you will have the opportunity to visit our sustainability project, launched in collaboration with our local partner in Vietnam. We have chosen to support Vinh Long because the communities in this region are facing a number of significant challenges. Many children in rural areas are forced to drop out of school due to a shortage of teachers, long distances to school, and families often having to prioritise work over education. Flooding regularly damages water and sanitation facilities, and with limited access to healthcare, everyday life is especially precarious for many families. Climate change continues to threaten agriculture, adequate housing is scarce, and many young people are leaving the area, which only perpetuates the cycle of poverty for these families.

The project aims to improve living conditions through tangible measures identified by the communities themselves. This includes repairing roads, building small bridges, and renovating homes for vulnerable families, making daily life safer and more resilient to the floods that come with the rainy season. In addition, we are working to give children and young people better opportunities for education by providing bicycles and scholarships, helping more of them attend school and complete their studies.

An essential part of this initiative is environmentally conscious thinking. In Vinh Long, solar-powered lamps are set to be installed to illuminate roads and communal areas, enabling residents to move around more safely after nightfall. Additionally, plans are in place for solar-powered irrigation systems to make agriculture more sustainable in the region.
