Join us on an excursion to North Stradbroke Island – also known as Straddie or Minjerribah – and enjoy a fantastic day surrounded by stunning nature, wildlife, and the true spirit of Australian island life. The island is the world’s second-largest sand island and offers dramatic coastlines, long white sandy beaches, and beautiful viewpoints.
You’ll be picked up by minibus from a central meeting point in Brisbane and driven for around 45–60 minutes to the ferry terminal in Cleveland. From there, you’ll board the car ferry to the island – a crossing of around 45 minutes. From the upper deck, you can soak up the views and watch out for dolphins, which often swim into the bay.
Upon arrival, you’ll head towards the north-eastern side of the island to Point Lookout, where you can follow scenic walking trails and boardwalks offering breathtaking ocean views. Along the way, your guide will share insights about the local nature and help you spot wildlife both on land and in the water. You may encounter kangaroos and perhaps even the more elusive wallaby. Keep your eyes peeled along the coast for dolphins, sea turtles, rays, and a wealth of birdlife – and during whale season (typically June to November), you might even be lucky enough to spot humpback whales passing by on their migration.
Large parts of the island are protected nature or hold special cultural significance for the Quandamooka people, which means access to some areas is restricted. Instead, you’ll visit some of the island’s most beautiful and easily accessible spots.
After the walk, you’ll have free time for lunch (at your own expense), and there are several eateries to choose from.
Later, there’s time to unwind on one of the island’s long, white sandy beaches. You can go for a swim, enjoy a stroll along the shore, or simply soak up the tranquillity and open landscape.
The final stop on your tour is Amity Point, where a stunning sunset hopefully awaits. The area is also known for its many eucalyptus trees that attract koalas, so you may be lucky enough to spot these adorable marsupials in the wild.
At the end of the day, you’ll take the ferry back to the mainland and be driven to Brisbane.
