Day trip to charming Victoria and Butchart Gardens

Get ready for a day trip to the charming city of Victoria on Vancouver Island, right on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. The city is the capital of British Columbia and is named after Queen Victoria. Founded as a British trading post in 1843, Victoria bears the imprint of the colonial era, reflected in its historic architecture.

Today’s excursion begins early in Vancouver, where you’ll be picked up from your hotel. From the nearby quay, you and the rest of your group will board the ferry from the mainland to Vancouver Island. The cruise through the enchanting archipelago of the “Gulf Islands” is a highlight in itself. With forest-clad islands on the horizon, it’s even more magical when the local wildlife breaks the surface of the water. It’s not uncommon to spot sea lions, eagles, and whales on the crossing.

Upon arrival in Victoria, you’ll visit one of the country’s most famous gardens, Butchart Gardens – a National Historic Site. Prepare for a riot of colours as millions of blossoms brighten your day in the Japanese and Rose Gardens.
From Butchart Gardens, you will continue into downtown Victoria, passing the second-oldest Chinatown in North America. You’ll also have ample time at your own leisure to explore the charming streets around the Inner Harbour’s promenade, home to the Parliament Buildings and the grand Fairmont Empress hotel, where you can order an Empress Tea with a generous spread of cakes. The area is packed with places to eat, galleries, and little shops, and if you’d like a recommendation for a local gem, just ask your guide.

Later in the day, you will return to the mainland, where you’ll be driven to your hotel.
