Whale watching from Vancouver (half-day tour)
Round off your Canadian adventure with a hair-raising encounter with the giants of the ocean, found in great numbers off Canada’s Pacific coast. Join this thrilling day out on the water dedicated to wildlife, where there’s a 90% chance of seeing a whale.
The cruise itself departs from the charming little fishing town of Steveston in south Vancouver, roughly a 25-minute drive from Vancouver city centre. Steveston is known for its maritime history and cosy harbourfront atmosphere. From here, you’ll head out with your fellow travellers and expert naturalist guides on an unforgettable whale-watching tour lasting between 3 and 5 hours.
The tour focuses on spotting the iconic Southern Resident killer whales, the fascinating and more elusive Transient killer whales, as well as the majestic humpback whales. There’s also a good chance of seeing seals, sea lions, porpoises, and, not least, bald eagles soaring over the water.
Three different types of boats are used (all with toilet facilities). As standard, you’ll be booked onto one of the larger boats (the Explorathor or Express). If you would prefer the small open Zodiac, please let us know at the time of booking.
- The Explorathor: Open Zodiac boat with capacity for 47 passengers, an upper observation deck, and partially covered seating for 10 passengers (mid-June to mid-September)
- The Express: Semi-covered Zodiac boat with capacity for 45 passengers, fitted with large windows that can be opened, and an open area at the rear (mid-June to mid-September)
