Full-day excursion to Chefchaouen
Chefchaouen is situated roughly halfway between Tangier and Fes, and is perhaps best known as the “blue city”. The abundance of blue-painted houses stands in striking contrast to the lush green Rif mountains surrounding the town, creating an almost fairytale-like atmosphere.
Chefchaouen was founded in 1471 as a kasbah to protect the area from a looming Portuguese invasion. When Granada, the last Muslim stronghold in the former Al-Andalus, fell in 1492, many of its inhabitants fled to Chefchaouen, drawn by its strategically secure location in the mountains. For centuries, Chefchaouen remained a relatively isolated town, which means the old Andalusian traditions are still very much alive here. Perhaps that’s why visiting feels a little like stepping into Andalusia itself.
The town is wonderfully charming, with everything within close walking distance, and its maze of inviting streets and little squares are best explored on foot – exactly what you’ll be doing today.
An exciting guided walking tour of the city awaits, along with lunch. Don’t forget to ask your guide why so many houses here are painted blue.
The price is valid for a minimum of 4 people.
