Cruise on the TSS Earnslaw and visit to Walter Peak High Country Farm – morning

Join us for a historic cruise aboard the TSS Earnslaw to Walter Peak High Country Farm, where you’ll get a fascinating insight into the farm’s conservation efforts and eco-tourism initiatives.

Your journey begins with a 45-minute cruise across Lake Wakatipu on the TSS Earnslaw, a heritage steamship dating back to 1912 and the only coal-fired passenger vessel still operating in the southern hemisphere. During the crossing, you’re welcome to explore the engine room, soak up the panoramic views from the deck, or relax with a refreshment from the onboard café.

Walter Peak High Country Farm is nestled in idyllic surroundings at the foot of the 1,800-metre Walter Peak mountain. Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly greeted by the farm’s horticulturist, who will guide you on a tour through lush gardens, fruit orchards, and apiaries. Along the way, you’ll gain an engaging insight into the local history and unique ecosystem—including the ongoing work to remove invasive trees and restore the area by planting native species. You’ll even have the chance to choose and plant your very own New Zealand tree or shrub in the nursery, making a meaningful contribution to bringing native habitats and birdlife back to the region.

After planting, enjoy a morning tea in the scenic surroundings, complete with a light selection of locally produced treats— including the farm’s own Walter Peak honey.

The return journey to Queenstown is once again aboard the historic steamship.

Start and end point: RealNZ Queenstown Visitor Centre, Steamer Wharf, 88 Beach Street (the address and time can also be found on your voucher). Please note that you’ll need to arrange your own transport to and from the starting point. Check-in is 20 minutes before departure.
