Highlights of the Coromandel Peninsula

Look forward to experiencing the highlights of the Coromandel Peninsula with expansive forests, breathtaking sandy beaches, and the iconic, naturally-formed arch of Cathedral Cove (Te Whanganui-A-Hei). There are many scenic stops along the way with short walks and great photo opportunities to enjoy the region’s stunning landscapes.

You will be picked up from your hotel early in the morning, and together with your passionate guide and a small group, you’ll leave the city and head towards the Coromandel Peninsula. Along the way, you will pass New Zealand’s great agricultural region, Waikato, and enjoy stunning nature and mountains.

Tide permitting, you’ll visit Hot Water Beach, where you can dig a hole in the sand to create your own geothermal spa while the ocean waves gently cool you down. Don’t forget your swimwear and a change of clothes for this unique experience!*

After lunch (at your own expense), the tour continues to the famous rock formation of Cathedral Cove, one of New Zealand’s most iconic natural wonders.

The hike to Cathedral Cove takes 30-45 minutes along small, uneven paths, requiring you to be in reasonably good physical condition. In return, you’ll be rewarded with a spectacular view of the Cathedral Cove rock formation and its namesake beach, which was actually voted one of the world’s 50 most beautiful beaches by World’s 50 Best Beaches in 2025. Cathedral Cove is part of the Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve and holds significant cultural importance for the Maori people, who know the place by its traditional name, Mautohe.

Afterwards, the tour heads back to Auckland with more exciting stops along the way.

*If visiting Hot Water Beach is not possible due to tides, the itinerary will be slightly adjusted. The hike to Cathedral Cove will take place before lunch, and in the afternoon, you’ll visit other beautiful beaches, such as Te Pare, Cooks Beach, and Lonely Bay.
