Taste Auckland's wine and food – an extension of your included city tour

Join a delightful full-day excursion where you can experience city and nature, culture and wine, in and around Auckland. The morning begins with an exciting city tour of Auckland, as described in the daily programme. In the afternoon, you will be treated to fine wine and food in the beautiful Kumeu Wine Country, where you will visit three different wineries.

Following the completed city tour in Auckland, you’ll have about a 20-minute drive to Kumeu Wine Country, one of New Zealand’s oldest wine regions. Here, you will sample award-winning wines and enjoy lunch at a modern winery surrounded by vineyards.

Your first stop is at Soljan Estate Winery, which has been owned and operated by the Soljan family since 1937. The winery has won numerous awards for its wide range of wines. Here, you will enjoy both lunch and a wine tasting in the winery’s restaurant, which serves a seasonal menu based on fresh local ingredients.

During the afternoon, you will visit two more wineries. From the cellar door at Westbrook Winery, you’ll have an idyllic view over a pond with rows of vineyards in the background. The wines here distinctly express both varietal character and regional origin. They are of high quality, crafted by one of New Zealand’s leading winemakers, and have won many awards.

The final visit is to Coopers Creek Winery, which offers a broad range of wines and is known for their adventurous choice of grape varieties and blends.

The tour concludes at the Tasman Sea late in the afternoon at Muriwai Beach. During the breeding season (August to March), you will have the opportunity to see Australasian gannets (Morus serrator), one of the world’s largest seabirds, in their natural habitat. You will get close to one of the world’s few mainland colonies of gannets, dramatically perched on the clifftops with views over the Tasman Sea, giving you a unique insight into their behaviour from a distance without disturbing their environment. The view stretches for miles along Muriwai’s wild, black sand beach.

Look forward to an eventful day that gives you a taste of both Auckland’s attractions and some of New Zealand’s finest wines in beautiful surroundings – with plenty of time to enjoy it all.
