Te Pa Tū – a cultural Māori experience (evening)

Immerse yourself in the vibrant heritage of the Māori people, set amidst breathtaking natural surroundings where tales, rituals, and flavours come alive. Welcome to Te Pa Tū.

Your evening commences with a traditional pōwhiri – a powerful welcome ceremony where Māori warriors greet you through song, dance, and age-old rituals. Become part of the community as you join in interactive activities like poi dancing, stick games, and gain insight into Māori arts and crafts, including tattooing, weaving, and wood carving.

In a natural amphitheatre, enclosed by towering tawa trees and blazing bonfires, you’ll be captivated by a lively kapa haka performance. Through the stirring haka, poi, and waiata (songs), Māori stories and traditions are brought to life, forging a deep bond with the cultural roots of Aotearoa (New Zealand).

Following the performance, you’ll be guided through the woodland to an exquisite three-course Māori fusion feast. The menu changes with the seasons and features dishes prepared in a traditional earth oven (hāngī), alongside modern creations using native ingredients such as kawakawa, pikopiko, and smoked delicacies. Dinner is served at communal tables, nurturing a sense of togetherness and lively conversation.

At Te Pa Tū, experiences align with the maramataka – the Māori lunar calendar – meaning each season brings fresh themes and menus. Whether celebrating Matariki in winter or joining the summer harvest festivities, you’ll enjoy an evening where culture, nature, and cuisine seamlessly intertwine.

After a sumptuous meal and an unforgettable cultural encounter, you’ll be taken back to Rotorua.
