The spirit of Rotorua
Discover even more of Rotorua’s captivating Māori culture and enchanting landscapes on this day tour, which features everything from dramatic geysers and traditional Māori performances to beautiful lakes and the magical Redwood Forest.
You will be collected from your hotel in Rotorua and your first stop of the tour is Te Puia Thermal Park. Here, you’ll experience bubbling mud pools and spectacular geysers, including the famous Pōhutu geyser, which erupts up to 30 metres into the air several times a day.
Te Puia is also home to the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute. Here, you can witness weaving and wood carving created using ancient methods and traditions. You’ll also have the chance to enjoy a traditional Māori cultural performance.
Te Puia also hosts a special conservation programme for the kiwi, New Zealand’s iconic national bird. This is your opportunity to learn about this nocturnal and elusive creature—and perhaps even spot one in a protected environment.
Following a delicious lunch in the park (included), the tour continues to the stunning Blue and Green Lakes, Lake Tarawera, and finally to the majestic Redwood Forest.
The Redwood Forest is filled with impressive Californian redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens), planted in the early 1900s as part of an experiment. Today, some of these giants soar over 70 metres tall and are now more than a century old. Walking among these towering trees is a truly magical experience.
This tour is conducted in a small group in the company of a local guide, who will share their extensive knowledge of the area and the sites you visit.
