Tickets for nature cruise in Akaroa – self-drive
Set off on a unique waterborne adventure off the coast of Akaroa and witness dolphins, seals, and perhaps even penguins in their natural habitat.
Departing from the charming, French-inspired harbour town of Akaroa, you’ll explore a breathtaking landscape shaped by an ancient volcanic crater, home to a wealth of wildlife found in only a handful of places worldwide.
Aboard the comfortable catamaran, you’ll have spectacular views of the dramatic coastal cliffs rising from the shoreline. As you sail out in search of marine life and seabirds, the crew will share fascinating facts and stories about the area’s geology, history, and wildlife. You can step out onto the deck to feel the sea breeze, or relax indoors with a cup of hot tea or coffee. There’s also a small kiosk where you can purchase a snack.
On this two-hour cruise, you’ll get up close to the rare Hector’s dolphins, the smallest and most endangered species of dolphin in the world. Along the way, you’ll pass areas where New Zealand fur seals love to bask on the rocks, and with a bit of luck, you might spot both seals and little white-flippered penguins by the water’s edge.
An unforgettable experience awaits you in one of New Zealand’s most breathtaking coastal regions.
