Boat safari, bike ride and cookery course

You will be picked up from the hotel and driven to Mahamodara, which is the starting point of today’s excursion. Here, you will board a small boat that sails you up the man-made Kepu Ela canal. It was built during the Dutch rule to transport goods such as pepper and cinnamon from the villages to Galle. You will be accompanied on the tour by a local guide, who will help you to spot all the different birds along the river.

The boat will dock at the charming little village of Wakwella, where you will visit the local coconut workshop and discover how coconut shells are used to make various household utensils.

You’ll then be kitted out with a bicycle as you’re going on a wonderful bike ride through the village. The route is flat, making it suitable for most people. The bike ride provides a good insight into how life is lived in a traditional Sri Lankan village. The bike ride takes you past jungle, rice fields and traditional houses. You’ll make a stop at a small shop to buy vegetables, which will be used to make lunch

Having arrived at a traditional hut, an exciting cookery course awaits you, which is guaranteed to make your mouth water. Along the way, the host will tell you about traditional cooking techniques, vegetables, fruit and aromatic spices.

The excursion ends with a delicious lunch. You will then be driven back to the hotel.

Duration: approx. 3 hours
