Nestled on the shores of the mirror-like Lak Lake in Vietnam, Lak Tented Camp is surrounded by lush mountains, dense forests, and traditional villages. The camp was founded with a strong emphasis on responsible tourism and sustainability.
The camp has been thoughtfully constructed to blend in with the surroundings, using natural and locally sourced materials such as bamboo, wood, and clay. Its position on the landscape has been carefully chosen to minimise impact, with only a small part of the area being built upon. There is a strong commitment to using natural resources as well as replanting trees to help restore the local forest ecosystem. Fresh spring water is served in refillable bottles, electricity is generated by solar power, waste is sorted and recycled, and most of the ingredients for meals come from local producers or the camp’s own garden, where fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs are lovingly grown. All of this helps to reduce the camp’s carbon footprint, while at the same time strengthening both the local ecosystem and the community’s economy.
Lak Tented Camp has been developed in close collaboration with the local community and is largely run by members of the M’nong minority from the neighbouring villages. A key focus of the camp is this close partnership with the M’nong people, who have lived in harmony with the nature surrounding Lak Lake for generations. Through guided village visits and cultural activities, guests have the unique opportunity to experience the traditions of the M’nong people up close. Income goes directly to local families and helps boost their economic independence.
At Lak Tented Camp, you won’t find luxurious facilities. Here, ‘luxury’ means tranquillity, sweeping views, and plenty of space—each guest has around 1,000 square metres to themselves. There’s no room service, TV, telephone, or minibar in the rooms. Instead, you’ll find books, board games, and an inviting space for genuine connection and reflection.
The dining experience follows the same straightforward and sustainable philosophy. The menu isn’t lavish, but offers a carefully chosen selection of authentic Vietnamese dishes, and large buffets are avoided to minimise food waste.
By visiting Lak Tented Camp, you’re helping to preserve the natural environment, support local communities, and encourage a form of tourism where responsibility and respect go hand in hand.
