Doi Inthanon National Park

Join us on this scenic excursion to Doi Inthanon National Park with its stunning, wild nature, great hiking trails and soaring mountains. The climate is cool, the humidity high and the wildlife fantastic.

You will be picked up from the hotel and driven the 2 hours to Doi Inthanon National Park, where Thailand’s highest mountain, of the same name, rises 2,565 metres above sea level. Both the park and the mountain are named after one of Chiang Mai’s last kings, Inthawichayanon, who was passionate about nature conservation in northern Thailand.

When you get to the top of the mountain, a hike in the mysterious cloud forest awaits you, taking you past a pagoda built in memory of King Inthawichayanon, among other things.

You will then be driven a few hundred metres down the mountain to the popular Kew Mae Pan hiking trail, which is a must when visiting Doi Inthanon National Park. Here, you will experience the diverse landscapes and ecosystems and not least Northern Thailand’s arguably most beautiful panoramic views. You will be accompanied by an experienced guide from the local Hmong village. The route is 2.7 km long and is suitable for anyone in reasonably good health. However, it is not recommended for people with walking difficulties, as there are several places along the route where the terrain goes up and down. You should also note that the trail is closed during the rainy season from June to October. If your tour is during this period, you will be driven to another scenic hiking trail in the nearby village of Mae Klang Luang instead.

Afterwards, a well-deserved lunch awaits you at the Royal Project in the village of Khun Klang. The Royal Project was set up by King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) with the aim of stopping the illegal opium cultivation and instead educate the locals in the cultivation of fruit, vegetables, coffee and flowers. After lunch, you will be given a guided tour and there will also be time to make a purchase in the small shop.

The next visit is to the mountain’s well-kept garden, where two large pagodas with golden spires tower into the sky. These were built in memory of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) and his wife. On a clear day, the views from up here are absolutely stunning, with evergreen forests blanketting the rolling mountains.

The last visit of the tour is to the gushing, 40-metre-high Wachiratharm waterfall, one of the national park’s most impressive waterfalls.

You will then be driven back to the hotel in Chiang Mai, arriving early evening.

Lunch is included in the price.
