On this scenic tour, you’ll experience the sunset over the iconic landscape of Lower Monument Valley. From the seat of a four-wheel-drive vehicle, you’ll set off with a local Navajo guide and fellow travellers to explore the valley’s remote and extraordinary natural surroundings, as the warm evening light highlights the red tones of the cliffs.
During the tour, your guide will take you to several of Monument Valley’s most legendary sites, including ‘John Ford’s Point’, which has served as the backdrop for numerous classic Western films over the years. From here, the journey continues deeper into the valley to ‘Big Hogan’, a vast natural sandstone arch where the sunlight falls beautifully through the open top. Next, you’ll reach ‘Sun’s Eye’, where you can gaze up through the oval opening in the rock and see how the sunlight forms the shape of a great eye. Here, you’ll also find fascinating petroglyphs that speak of the area’s rich history. The tour continues to ‘Ear of the Wind’, the valley’s largest rock arch, before ending at the ‘Totem Pole’ and ‘Yei Bi Cheii Monuments’ – a collection of slender sandstone spires that, with a bit of imagination, resemble dancing figures in the evening sun.
During the tour, your guide will share fascinating stories about the nature, culture, and history of the Navajo people, and there will be plenty of time to take photos.
