Travelogue from the Maldives: Wonderful, fabulous, incredible!

In summer 2018, our colleague Britta visited the Maldives. Read about her experiences below.

The Maldives have been responsible for many superlatives. We therefore travelled to the region with very high expectations. And it is no exaggeration. Our expectations were surpassed.

On arrival, even the view of the water in the port next to Malé Airport was surreal. I have never seen such turquoise blue water before. And we have certainly travelled to a number of countries with beautiful beaches.

Our arrival at the Summer Island resort further reinforced this impression. Empty beaches to the left and right of the pier, white and fine coral sand, and gentle waves softly washing the island.

We received a very warm welcome from the staff, and we were once again delighted as we were shown to our bungalow. Furnishings and fittings, cleanliness, and this location with a view of the bay and just 10-15 steps to enter bathtub-warm waters. It really is the case: A water temperature of 27-29 degrees Celsius is slightly cooling, but it invites bathers to stay in and enjoy it for longer.

And anyone who wishes to try out their snorkelling equipment will find a variety of colourful fish in the waters just a few metres away.

However, this is greatly surpassed by the snorkelling excursions (1 x day included with an all-inclusive package, otherwise USD 20) to the offshore reefs. In addition to all the other colourful fish, here snorkellers can spot turtles, blacktip sharks, porcupine fish, morays and more besides.

And after strenuous exertions, the inviting restaurant is the perfect place to recharge with a delicious buffet. It serves up international cuisine of a very high quality, whilst there is also a generous choice of Asian cuisine with Sinhalese and Indian influences. You can enjoy a wide selection of delicious curries, sushi, grilled meat and seafood.
